Merging with the Moment

Greetings dear ones,

I’ve been thinking a lot about the nature of relationships lately. There have been big changes and deep insights in my life around some very key relationships. Relationships like all phenomena are fluid. Ever changing, ever re-inventing themselves in response to the flow of life all around them.

At cuddle party we work with 11 rules to guide our actions. Rule #6: “You are encouraged to change your mind” is my personal favorite. Once I was asked, “Why do we encourage people to change their minds? Why not just tell people it’s ok to change their minds?” The answer is because change is not something that might happen. It is the only thing that is happening. All the time. When we encourage people to change their minds what we are really inviting them to do is to enter into the flow of life and be present with the moment just as it is.

My spiritual teacher says “The only past that is real is the past that is present in this very moment”. This really had a powerful impact on me. It helped me to land in this reality right now and realize that the stories, projections and attachments that color my view of reality are not actually the events of the past. They are my current re-creation of them. They exist only as functions of my working mind and as such they are subject to revision, deletion, and re-working, just like the words I am typing now. I am not subject to them, they are subject to me and they don’t exist beyond the life I (or you) breathe into them.

True intimate connection is possible only when I am willing to be present with another just as they are. Otherwise I am simply relating to a projection created by my mind. The same principle applies to my relationship with myself. Whoever is the object of my desire to connect I try to ask myself these guiding questions. Am I witnessing this person (or myself), just in this moment? Or are my eyes cataract by the overgrowth of my impressions of past events? Am I allowing them to be complete and whole just as they are (I am)? Or am I looking for problems to fix or ways to “improve”?

In nature-based coaching we presume the wholeness, completeness, and dynamism of all beings.

Therefore, we don’t address life as a collection of problems to be solved. Instead, we work to remove story and blockages and uncover the effortless fluidity of our natural essence.
